Parshas Pinchas: Hear no evil |
בְּנֵי גָד, לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם
לְאָזְנִי, מִשְׁפַּחַת הָאָזְנִי
"The children of Gad were... for Azni the family of Azni"
Rashi tells us that this was the family of Etzbon. Chasma Sofer quotes the Shlah who explains what the connection is between Azni and Etzbon. Chazal tell us that a person is created with fingers in order to place them in his ears so that he should not hear "Diburim Asurim" - words which he is prohibited to hear. Therefore says the Shlah, since the whole purpose of a finger is so that one should place it in his ear , we can understand why the family Azni (ear) can be called Etzbon (a finger).http://revach.net/parshas-hashavua/quick-vort/Parshas-Pinchas-Hear-no-evil/2473 |
