Vesamachta Bechagecha

I just finished reading a book about Rav Nochum Cohen, titled 180 Rechov Yaffo, by Dr. Meir Wikler.
One episode in the book is about one of Rav Cohen's rebbeim, Rav Elya Roth, z'l. It describes a man who came to Rav Elya, depressed because his daughter needed a shidduch and wished to request a beracha from Rav Roth.
.
Rav Roth said to him, "Depressed? You are feeling depressed? You should jump up right now and dance. You should dance and sing praise to Hashem that he has given you a daughter! Do you know how many people are childless right now and would give anything to have a child? Then, after you are finished dancing, I will give you a beracha to find a shidduch for your daughter."

May we merit finding the right shidduchim for ourselves, our children, grandchildren and friends at the right time. In the meanwhile, let's rejoice in all the good that has been bestowed upon us.

Parshat Ha'azinu

The Pasuk says (32:4) "HaTzur Tamim Pa'aloi Ki Chol Dirachav Mishpat, Kel Emuna V'Ein Avel; Hashem action are flawless, for all His ways are just, Hashem is faithful without any injustice." Injustice? We talk about how righteous Hashem is, it seems strange to mention that Hashem in not "unjust".

Rav Shach says from the Vilna Gaon that it is impossible for humans to take into account all surrounding circumstances and dispense perfect justice. For example, when someone commits a crime that requires the death sentence, has the court also determined if his children deserve to be orphans or not? What about the person who he says hello to every morning, has the court figured out if they can compensate that person for the loss they are inflicting on them.

When Hashem dispenses judgement, He has accounted for everything from the most glaring consequences to the most minute nuance. This is truly a tribute that we humans can marvel at. Hashem's justice system is pure justice, without the slightest trace of injustice.

Meet the Last Jews of Cairo

There is a minhag to eat Kreplach, meat covered with dough, on Erev Yom Kippur. The Minhag Yisroel Torah brings from the Geulas Yisroel that the reason is because Erev Yom Kippur is a Yom Tov, but it is a hidden Yom Tov as we are allowed to do Milacha on this day. Therefore we eat meat which is a Mitzva to eat on Yom Tov. However we hide it inside the dough, as our Yom Tov is concealed in a day of Milacha.

This also explains why we eat Kreplach on Hashana Rabba and Purim which are also Yamim Tovim although work is permitted on those days.

He also brings from the Zera Kodesh that meat symbolizes Din and the dough represents Rachamim. We take the din of Yom Kippur and we wrap it in a layer of Rachamim to ask Hashem that even if we are given a harsh judgement it should be coated in mercy. http://revach.net/hanhagos/minhagim/Why-Kreplach-On-Erev-Yom-Kippur/4098

Two Amazing Tricks Guaranteed To Help You Avoid Punishment For Your Aveiros

Trick #1 - The gemara in Rosh Hashana says that if you go beyond you character and forfeit your rights in getting angry at people who have cause you to be angry Hashem will forgive you for your aveiros. Every person is judged in Shamayim with the same attitude he shows his fellow man down on earth. Therefore a person who is not "Midakdek" and does not act measure for measure with people will receive the same treatment from Hashem. The Chafetz Chaim uses the idea to explain the enigmatic gemara in Bava Metzia 30 that says Yerushalayim was destroyed because they judged each other to the letter of the law. What about avodah zara in the first Bais HaMikdash and Sinas Chinam in the second? He answers that indeed that was their aveira but had they not dispensed exact judgment down on earth then the heavenly court would have done the same above and forgiven them.

Trick #2 - All our pain is caused by the Satan who constantly prosecutes us before Hashem. Why does Hashem listen to his evil slander about His beloved children, Lashon Hara is assur even if it is true? The answer is that Hashem only listens to lashon hara about those who speak it themselves. If a person does not speak any lashon hara Hashem will not let the Satan dare open his mouth to speak about him. This is incredibly effective. If we refrain from lashon hara we need not beg Hashem not to punish us for our aveiros they are never even brought before him for judgment!

The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) is questioning the objectivity of a statement issued on Thursday by the United Nations Security Council in relation to a recent spate of violence perpetrated by Palestinian Arabs on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. In expressing its concern and urging restraint, the UN stated that Muslims “must be allowed to worship in peace, free from violence, threats and provocation.”

The members of the Security Council expressed their grave concern regarding escalating tensions in Jerusalem, especially surrounding the Haram al-Sharif compound, including recent clashes in and around the site.

The members of the Security Council called for the exercise of restraint, refraining from provocative actions and rhetoric and upholding unchanged the historic status quo at the Haram al-Sharif — in word and in practice.

A Jewish man died early Monday morning after attackers pelted the road he was driving on with rocks as he was returning home from a dinner celebrating Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, the Israeli authorities said.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, begins at sunset on Sunday. As the Jewish year 5776 begins, the ranks of the Orthodox in the United States are growing, both in real numbers and as a percentage of the total Jewish population.
...In its 2013 "Portrait of Jewish Americans," Pew suggested that religion is a less unifying force within non-Orthodox iterations of the faith. The 53 percent who identified as Reform or Conservative Jews, for example, were less likely to keep kosher, attend Jewish services, marry other Jews, raise their children in the faith or consider religion a core aspect of life, Pew found.

This week I came across an article by Rabbi Emanuel Feldman titled If Elul comes, can nerves be far behind? One particular thought held my attention.

"Let the non-Orthodox glibly talk about tikkun olam, repairing the world. We Orthodox have more limited goals, which we call tikkun atzmi, repairing the self (which is infinitely more difficult than the abstract repairing the world."

I recalled a blog I came across in which the clergy member was very concerned about Israel’s ongoing oppression of the Palestinian people, quoting the Torah about pursuing justice when needing verses to bolster his global vision of what a fair world should look like, while disregarding the Scripture regarding individual responsibility to follow laws set forth therein. Yes, it is easier to spend one hour marching in solidarity of a people who were wronged rather than spending time on personal introspection. A life sentence

William A. Jacobson writes about the murder of Shelley Dadon in a post titled The ‘I Can’t Breathe’ case you never heard of.

When I read yesterday that the murderer was handed a life sentence, I immediately thought the article should have read, "the murderer was sentenced to being provided with three meals a day, free medical care, an option to pursue further studies and free lodging until such time that a prisoner exchange necessitates his release."
Meanwhile, Israeli citizens who are living in poverty who haven't murdered anybody cannot be assured of where their next meal is coming from.

The Nazareth District Court handed a life sentence to taxi driver Yousef Hussein Halifa on Wednesday and fined him NIS 258,000 (about $65,800) over the murder of Afula resident Shelley Dadon last year in a high-profile case.

Op-Ed: Senators Who Took Money from Iran

BBCwatch called attention to the BBC rebranding of the Munich Olympics terrorists.

As can be seen below, both in the synopsis to the clip appearing on the BBC News website and in the on-screen caption in the video itself, the BBC has once again avoided the use of the word terror, preferring to describe the perpetrators as “Palestinian extremists” and a “Palestinian extremist group”. http://bbcwatch.org/2015/09/01/more-bbc-news-rebranding-of-munich-olympics-terrorists/

In yesterday's State Department briefing, journalist Said posed a number of questions to Mark Toner. He had no problems using the word "terrorist" multiple times. Additionally, most articles refer to the perpetrators of the attack as "suspected" Jewish settlers, Said categorically refers to them as Israeli settlers. I would advise the Israelii police to interview Said as he seems to know more than anyone who carried out the attack.

...it’s been 31 days since Israeli terrorist settlers attacked the village of Duma, killing a Palestinian baby and his father and mother and so on.

MR TONER: Yes, and his father, yeah. Mother, yeah.

QUESTION: And at the time, you expressed confidence that Israel has the wherewithal to pursue the terrorist perpetrators and bring them to justice, yet we don’t see this kind of raiding of the settlement to bring the perpetrators to justice. Are you still satisfied that Israel is doing all it can to apprehend the terrorist suspects in the settlement?

QUESTION: -- Palestinian-Israeli issue? There was a study issued by Oxford University and published in Haaretz yesterday that there are 60,000 American Jewish settlers in the West Bank. Do you have any comment on that?
