Count your blessings

A woman who suffered 18 miscarriages trying for a baby described her joy after giving birth to a "little miracle".
After 13 years of trying, Angie Baker finally gave birth to a little girl following pioneering treatment. Raiya was finally born on December 9 last year, weighing 7lb, and is now a healthy 10-week-old girl.
Ms Baker, 33, from Peacehaven near Brighton, said: "She's my little miracle. I can't explain how I feel. I'm overwhelmed.

After reading the above article, two thoughts stuck in my mind.
First of all, I thought about how this woman never gave into despair. After each setback, Ms. Baker picked up the pieces and began anew until she ultimately fulfilled her dream.
Secondly, I thanked G-d for my children and counted my blessings.
The following paragraphs are excerpted from a Rosh Hashanah sermon given by Rabbi Mark Hillel Kunis.

2 years ago on Rosh Hashanah I challenged you to envision your dreams being fulfilled. I think the events of this past year dictate that we need to do it again. We must not give in to despair—to the thought that, “My dreams will never work out.” No matter how impossible it looks, we must never give up on our dreams. As the Talmud teaches (Makot 10b): B’derech sheh-adam rotzeh leyleych, ba molichin oto, “In the direction a person wants to go, Gd will lead him.” Gd will bring your dreams to completion...

The only thing that can block the dreams Gd puts in us, teaches Rebbe Nachman, is our negativity—when we quit believing that it’s going to happen. It may seem impossible—like Abraham and Sarah having a child in their old age—but Gd can make a way even when it looks like there is no way!

...You might say, “I don’t know if this will happen for me. I’ve had a lot of setbacks. I didn’t get the promotion I wanted last year. The doctor told me he didn’t know if I’d make it.” No, it’s not going to happen with that kind of attitude. It’s not over until Gd says it’s over! ..."
